My First Impressions On Capcom’s Resident Evil 7 Biohazard In PlayStation VR Mode

In my first and early moments of playing Resident Evil 7 Biohazard, I felt as if I was a star in a movie. The opening cinematics felt very theoretical as I quickly became aware I was a husband (Ethan) embracing a beautiful moment of my wife video messaging me about her time out of town, her missing me and her love for me. Then I quickly face reality as I realize she is now missing for quite some time. However a ray of hope arises as I receive another video message from her that she is in fact alive, in fear for her life and needs me to save her. Any man who truly loves his wife must know what he is willing to do next at this point. As you may have guessed it, you then head off as Ethan to go look for your beloved wife. Without spoiling what takes place after this I will not completely detail the next portion of gameplay. However I will say in my own opinion, this game is definitely something to be experienced in VR. The feeling of facing the greatest fears point blank in first person perspective, bridging the gap between your seat and the TV is a feeling like no other. You will jump, peek behind cover and even swear your life away as you take on the horrors that await you surrounded by the Baker family. The gameplay mechanics do go back to the old RE series ways as you remain planted feet firm to take aim at your enemies and run to create distance before unleashing your arsenal or simply just to escape by any means necessary. Searching your surroundings is key to survival, as you will find both items of success (ammo, weapons, keys…etc) and of information (pictures, newspapers, list…etc) as you journey through the game. The graphics and sounds are great, always keeping the feeling of horror lively. The movement can feel a bit off and tricky at times as I did have moments where I knew I was running straight ahead but felt I was doing it with my body positioned a little more to the left or right of the forward facing position. However later figuring out I can have my running motion guided with the direction of where my head was facing was great and easily created a more realistic feel to any “running frantic” scenario. In my opinion I do feel anyone playing this game should try it in VR mode, as it quickly creates both a new and different experience to the game. The VR mode is free with the purchase of your copy of Resident Evil 7 Biohazard and is playable throughout the game’s entirety. Capcom’s Resident Evil 7 Biohazard is available now on PlayStation 4, PlayStation VR, Xbox 1, Microsoft Windows and Steam.
