System Software Update 5.50

And in PlayStation news, the new software update is out now! Here is what you need to know!

In Short

  • The new software update brings some new elements to your PS system, herein new functions to control the playtime of a user.
  • It also provides more possibilities to customise your game library.
  • And talking about customisation, if you have an ideal screenshot of your favourite game or just a weird photo you want to fill your screen with, PlayStation now introduces new methods to import user-defined backgrounds.
  • Last but not least, PlayStation also introduces “Supersampling”, which only makes the pretty game even prettier!

Let’s Dive in Deeper

Parental Control

This might not concern everyone, but it’s a function I think some families would like to have.

With this function, parents can add up to 22 family members to their family account and individually set which days the sub-accounts can play and for how long a play session can be.

For example, play sessions can be longer during the weekends and shorter, or limited, on the weekdays.

Game Library and More

This update adds the ability to sort through your library and organise it with new folders!

It also adds a dedicated folder for PS Plus games, and it lets you hide old content that you don’t use, like demos and betas.

And now, you can also manage your messages: you can group select them and delete them permanently if you feel like you want something neater.

For example, if you only want game invites or download, and so forth.

Through the quick menu, you’ll also receive more access to different functions and you don’t even have to quit your game doing it!

User Backgrounds and New Ways to Import Them

You’ve had the means to customise your background with in-game screenshots for some time now, but you couldn’t import that one wallpaper you so loved because it was on your PC.

But that is all changing! Now you’re able, via USB to import everything-images that your heart desires. You just need #1, a USB and #2, have a file named “IMAGES” on it.

For best resolution, PlayStation recommends either 1920×1080 or 3860×2160 for the PS4 and PS4 Pro, respectively.

Supersampling

So, apparently, Sony found a way to optimise the visuals when you’re not playing on a 4K-TV — with the new Supersampling Mode for the PS4 Pro, which enables:

“The highest resolution”, “delivering sharper lines”, “soft edges, and “more refined details”.

Extra

Some extra functions include:

  • Better Twitch Streaming
  • Better notification control
  • More organisation of your home screen, profile, apps, etc.
  • HDR on both the PS4 and PS4 Pro
  • Easier data-transfer

Let us know what you think!

So, better get that update going, but first, let me hear what you think! What improvements would you want to see in the next update?
