Fortnite’s Battle Royale Heading to Free to Play Ahead of the Campaign

Fortnite is a third person co-op sandbox action building survival game (could it be anymore defined lol) by People Can Fly and Epic Games. The game was released as an early access title on July 25th, 2017 for anyone who made a purchase of any founder’s pack edition they’ve made available on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The game originally only featured a co-op campaign upon release but later included a Battle Royale game mode similar to the one you would find in PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. Epic Games since then has recently released an update on Fortnite about both its campaign and Battle Royale game modes.

For Fortnite’s campaign, the Save The World PvE campaign, Block Party mode and some spooky October content remain in the pipelines for the future of the game’s co-op early access.
As for the title’s Battle Royale game mode, it will be a free to play game mode come September 26th, 2017 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One regardless if you’ve purchased a founder’s pack or not. The game mode will also receive “squads” which will allow players to team up in the 100 man battle royal. Epic Games has also stated there will be more content available in the future for the battle royal game mode which will not include anything in terms of “pay to win” content which is great news for those real competitive gamers.

Fortnite’s Battle Royale Gameplay Trailer:

Now don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy what Epic Game’s has brought to the table for gamers from past to present and I’m also happy with them coming outright with future updates for the Fortnite title. However, regardless of how I feel I can’t help but wonder if this could fall under the H1Z1 treatment. Why was Fortnite’s Battle Royale game mode pushed so quickly into Free to Play before the campaign’s announced free to play in 2018?

H1Z1 like Fortnite started with a campaign and was also said to be featured on the PlayStation 4 after its PC release. Then PUBG hit the scene and H1Z1 developed its own Battlegrounds with the release of H1Z1: King of the Hill. H1Z1’s campaign and PlayStation 4 release have seemed to be swept under the carpet since the Kill of the Hill release and no further information has be developed on the PlayStation 4 release since despite the Kill of the Hill game mode slated to hit PlayStation and Xbox One consoles. My only hope is that Fortnite doesn’t see the same faith especially after many have purchased a founder’s pack to help support the game and its original content that was offered at the start of its early access program. I do have faith in Epic Games as they have constantly delivered to the fans in my opinion. Let’s see what the future holds.

Remember Fortnite’s Battle Royale game mode goes free to play September 26th, 2017 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. For more on Fortnite and everything gaming, be sure to keep it locked right here on MagGamer.
