Obsidian entertainment has announced that it has officially started production on Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire. You can watch the campaign launch trailer below:
The first game’s Kickstarter campaign launched on September 14, 2012 with a goal of $1.1 Million. It was successfully funded just two days later, reaching $3.9 Million by the end of its campaign.
Rather than return to their Kickstarter roots, Obsidian decided to launch the second game’s funding campaign on Fig, a newer platform that allows interested parties to pledge as well as invest in the game. Pillars of Eternity II set the same goal of $1.1 Million and as of writing, has already been funded, less than 24 hours after its campaign launched.
The first game was widely received as one of the best isometric RPG’s of our generation, so it comes to no surprise that the second game would be funded so quickly. With 28 days to go, it would be reasonable to expect the previous result of $3.9 Million to be surpassed within weeks, if not days.
The expected release date is currently set for Q1 2018 so it shouldn’t be too long before you are able to venture back into the intriguing land of Eora.
