Story

Rocksteady studios taking a U-turn into the villains view of life, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is set in the universe previously established by the Batman: Arkham series. Five years after the events of Batman: Arkham Knight, where director Amanda Waller creates a task force known as Task Force X as we know them the Suicide Squad, which is composed of Arkham Asylum inmates Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, Deadshot and King Shark for a covert mission in Metropolis aka a Looter Shooter genre RPG action open world game. It’s a lot of words but The genre blend is actually some of my favorite btw. The setup is that Brainiac has invaded Earth and has started brainwashing its inhabitants, including Justice League members Superman,The Flash, Green Lantern and Batman. Hints to Task Force X being assigned to killing the Justice League.

I luckily got to play Suicide Squad: KtJL for closed beta and while i wont spoil the story at all there was a Batman section that really was what convinced me that this game will be interesting story wise as I am sure many might feel sceptical to get a Suicide squad instead of batman from Rocksteady but I am sure they are putting their hearts into it. Lets see what a director of the game has to say about the story and fans like myself wanting something special like the Batman Arkham offered. Speaking to PLAY magazine, product director Darius Sadeghian said it’s “easily our biggest game” in terms of story. “It’s still full of the DNA that infuses the Batman: Arkham series – those foundations of story and character are absolutely central to our process.”

Gameplay

I tend to say that video games are all about Gameplay and while this is mostly true story is important also with SS:KtJL I felt the gameplay told a story as unique animations, weapons and abilities gave each character a very distinct feel when playing as them. As someone who loves Looter shooters with open worlds action based experiences this game really has a lot in store. I might need to write a book on it so we will do you better and make some video breakdowns of the core experience. I can say that action is well throughout as combinations are key not only to defeat enemies but you can also heal up via the melee attacks grabbing shields off enemies. From counters when enemies try to shoot you to breaking their armors all within the same combination is awesome. Plus you have Leaderboards that keep track of everything you do so Combinations will be key from what I have played and seen. There is a deep layer of just combat and I will be covering the game deeper so watch my video below to see some more information.

I never would have thought I wanted a DC looter shooter but here we are as Rocksteady have so much depth in the game that it’s actually new and innovative features for the experience. From being about to use a AI companion of a friend or streamer with the best build that works for you to Leaderboards for solo, duos, trios and quads plus clans. Things like a true end game with infinite levels is very much exciting to hear about. Since I played the game early I know it feels good but my only question is will story be special? Will the gameplay loop be good enough to hold a looter shooter fan like myself all year? If you want a looter shooter, your in luck. If you want a Rocksteady game experience your in luck. If you want a batman arkham game your going to have to play the trilogy its a classic but really if you want a DC universe within Batman Arkham trilogy reach, You got Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. A game set 5 years after the batman arkham games and featuring many of the heroes and villains you love. You are in luck with this one as it looks like Rocksteady Studio decided to do something different and expand the universe and its gameplay looks to be a literal Blast.
